Transneft – Kozmino Port, LLC conducts operations on the provision of electrochemical protection at the site of onshore and berthing facilities within the framework of technical modernization.
The application of an electrochemical protection technique will ensure corrosion proofing of oil pier underwater structures, berths 1 and 2 for harbor vessels and a tubular sheet wall of an approach dam.
The establishment of electrochemical protection comprises technically challenging operations, particularly conducted underwater with the involvement of divers. The experts are planning to construct 19 cathodic protection stations and route over ten kilometers of control and power DC cable lines. The project also includes the modification of the existing automation system of berthing facilities and signal output from cathodic protection stations.
The operations on the provision of electrochemical protection are executed using domestically manufactured equipment. In accordance with the energy policy of Transneft, priority is given to equipment with innovative characteristics.
Anode beds will be represented by slightly soluble electrodes composed of chemically stable material (titanium, niobium, tantalum). They are characterized by high energy efficiency and lower dissolution rate, which in turn increases service life.
Electrochemical protection is an active technique of corrosion proofing of metal structures provided with the use of cathodic polarization. Its application significantly reduces corrosion rate and potential metal damage allowing to avoid unscheduled repairs at the facilities. Therefore, the service life of metal structures is considerably increased.
