Transneft – Kozmino Port conducted a drill on elimination of an emergency oil spill in water area

Date of publication: 31 July 2017 Print

According to the legend, the simulated oil spill was received from a neighbouring water area: an accident with a simulated spill of 500 cubic meters of oil occurred during a cargo operation at a ship being at anchor near the oil port’s shore and berthing facilities. The “oil stain” moved along the water area to the area of responsibility of Kozmino port, when it was recorded by the enterprise’s specialists.

The forces of the non-regular emergency rescue team of Transneft – Kozmino Port, ships and oil skimmers of the emergency rescue team of the branch of Transneft-Servis  in Nakhodka, two fire teams of FS (fire station)-91, specialists of environmental analysis laboratory and the personnel of SaBF participating in elimination of the accident according to the port’s regulations, were involved for the purpose of quick elimination of the spill.

The oil spill in the bay’s water area was localized with the help of modern booms. Then the bilge water removing ship “Titan” started working and collected the “oil and water mixture” from the water surface; then it was pumped through a portable pipeline from the ship to the industrial pipeline for further accumulation and recovery. The emergency situation was eliminated within the established period.

“The drill’s objectives and tasks were performed in full. Readiness of the personnel and the equipment to elimination of possible emergency situations was confirmed,” - said Roman Vlasenko, Deputy Chief Engineer, Head of the Occupational Safety and Operational Control Directorate of Transneft – Kozmino Port, summing up the drill’s results.
